Opt-In Pages
In this video we cover the topic of Opt-In Pages. It seems as of lately, the subject has almost become controversial. Here’s how you do it and specifically how you do it right.
Do you want a 50%, 60% or even a 70% opt-in rate? Watch the video to learn how.
Post your comments and let us know your thoughts!

Do you offer any form of fill-in the blank templates
for opt-in list follow-up writing in your PAID course?

Hi Armand,
This video was right on the money! I have argued with colleagues and clients over and over, trying to get them to see the necessity of getting an opt-in page in front of their sales letter. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen yet.

Armand,
Love all these videos and am looking forward to the full product.
Now while I understand what you are saying about the opt in page and why - I’m not sure how to put it together with my book and services site. Right now what I am selling is a book on leadership and will be selling workshops on leadership along with a home study course and other short How To booklets. Since I have no list- I am not sure how to put all this together. Will the coming product cover this? Should my web site just be a “sales letter” with an opt in ? When is the next Big Seminar?
thanks,

Armand,
What do you feel about teasers? Meaning, provide certain parts of the web site, but cutting these short and limiting others: requiring the OPT-IN. Part of the Product I offer has nothing to do with the Web, and therefore I use my site to post “reports” on what might have happened at our last event. So far, I have not limited people’s viewing of these reports, and I have only required an OPT-IN for other parts of the site. What are your thoughts on this approach?

Hi Armond,
It was a great video with so many insights.

Do you have any pages to use them as a reference?
Looking forward to hear back from you.

Is is it a distraction to put a login on the sample I gave in the video?
ANSWER: NO, If you don’t offer members a way viable way to login that is apparent, you increase customer service and make your PAYING CUSTOMERS mad. Note, this is the only time I do this and it’s because there is a members area.
Should my website be an optin page then salesletter?
ANSWER: After watching the video what do you think? The answer is YES, YES AND YES!!!
How do I feel about teasers?
ANSWER: Teasers are a method they work. This blog and the Relaunch Video are certainly teasers. Certainly, a forced optin page does work better though, a teaser method is definately worth doing.
Most answers later.

Hi Armand,
Great video. Your timing is amazing! The morning of the day your video was published, I created an opt-in page on my website. It’s an opt-in page to get notification of some live free training events I’m going to be running this year.
I had a number of visitors to my website from the various different articles I had written about my events page, but a disappointing number of opt-ins.
Guess what? My opt-in page stunk - just like you said!
Your video has given me some great tips on how I can improve on this.

I have been hesitant to use the opt-in for many of the reasons you’ve listed (and yes, I know I’m an idiot - as you pointed out) but really understand most everything except the branding part. That isn’t totally clear to me - how that differs from using your logo.

So this is the conclusion for an opt-in pate, I presume;
Not put a picture on myself, or contact information
how the customer can reach me?
I thougth this was the right model to do an opt in.
A bit confused now as I learned med doing it this way,
to tell my name, contact info, picutre to create
credability.

Thanks for your tips! As I have been at this a while, I do appreciate some of you tips. Most of the information you dispense about Google’s AdSense can be found in the Adsense site, but thanks to you, we no longer need to sift through the mountains of materials, as you give us the beneficial ‘Readers Digest’ version… GREAT JOB! (I think I just found my new mentor!)
I cannot say that I have made a million on the web, heck, I can’t even say I’ve made 500 in a year. Most of the time I ‘tinkered’ with things when I had the time and energy to do so.
But now that you have given me new ideas, like the increasing traffic to web sites tip, which helped me make the rest of the $100 I needed so I can get paid this month, I can say that your ideas DO indeed work. (OK, yes I did blow $50 on testing this out, but it was worth every penny! My one site only received 30 to 50 new visitors a day, and since I set the total budget to $25 a day, within those two days I received over 50,000 new hits to that web site)
I am open for any help or networking with anyone that subscribes here and I look forward to learning more Armand!

Wow Armand,
This made me instantly feel understood! That’s why I so vigoruosly push opt-ins as often as I can. I’ve noticed a higher increase and will definitely change an opt-in page I currently use..
The thing that has held me back on a “CB” product is the fact that people can’t have their own “opt-in” in front of me, but I realized that they get more out of it if I use Viral Profits Machine and the people who are collected are actually marketed to from this point of view! So in reality, they ARE NOT missing out, but instead GAINING a lot from getting people to Opt-In for ME…
Awesome, I’ve got some crazy ideas now, let’s get marketing!

Thanks for the fast and free education!
I haven’t used an opt-in page like this before on any of my pages because 1. I didn’t know the right way to do so and 2. I thought that my main page was supposed to be SEO’d to the max and didn’t think that could be done with a quick and easy opt-in page.
Plus I thought the root of your web is where all the search engines looked at and that was what you are supposed to submit.. so I am still not 100% clear but is your optin page supposed to be the root or something like www.ABC.com/optin
[reply this comment]
January 8th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
I don’t mean to hijack the thread, but just wanted to answer James from above. It is possible to have an seo’d site but still get people to optin. I think the 2 main forces that drive people to optin are the irresistable value you’re offering for their email/name AND the lack of choice.
Like Armand has said several times, you need to test. My site has a squeeze page” … but if you scroll down there’s food for the search engines.
There is no right or wrong, but Armand sure makes it easy to get started
I’m not sure how you can have a pure forced optin/squeeze page with no choice but still have a way to let the search engines in to spider your site. Organic search is not the only way to get traffic, in any case.
Maybe someone else can comment on organic search and the spider/optin question.

Dave Ovenden reply on January 10, 2008:
Armand, I tried out your opt-in page on the eBook Generator site and I was surprised to find that you didn’t require me to verify my email address. This approach runs contrary to the advice I’ve read from companies such as AWeber.
I’m assuming that you’ve tested double opt-in versus single opt-in and found double opt-in damaged your opt-in rate? But at what risk? i.e. SPAM complaints / spurious email addresses etc.
ArmandMorin reply on January 10, 2008:
Yes, it’s true I don’t use a double optin and yes it does run contrary to what Aweber recommends. So let’s cover that.
If you are using a 3rd party service such as Aweber, 1shopping cart or GetResponse then I suggest you use a double optin and they may even require it.
I use Autoresponse Plus for my optins and the reason is I personally fully control it. I am also responsible for whitelisting and things of this nature.
We have zero spam complaints you can look up our domains on any spam lists and we do not appear.
Even when a person opts in for the first time without double opting in, we still have their IP address to go to battle with the ISP if we ever have a dispute.
So let me be clear, you should only run your own autoresponder system on your own server like we do, only if you have the resources and the knowledge to manage it yourself.
We have no issues with this method and as you can guess, we send quite a lot of email each month.
Armand

Hi Armand,
Just spent a very happy afternoon watching your videos. Tremendous value here and you’ve definitely got a new convert, so thanks for all your work here.
But. Not sure what to do about the google slap. I’ve been running that mass traffic method from your other video since last summer, and feel fairly experienced with it. I have tried it with, and without, many pages hanging off my squeeze page - when there are just a couple of privacy policy/contact pages etc hanging off the opt-in page then the google quality score seems to dip and after a few days impressions nose dive and prices zoom up. (I checked with google support, and they confirmed it was a quality score issue.)
Of course, optimising the page for the keywords doesn’t really work - there is no direct link like this when you are running placement ads. (Or am I missing something critical here?!)
I’m currently running the opt in page with links to my forum and my blog at the very foot of the page, well below the fold. Doing this seems to do wonders for the quality score, and brings impressions up while bringing cost down.
The page currently gets opt ins at about 17% in this format - I sincerely believe if I could reduce choice on the page like you advise this would go much higher - but have you any thoughts on reducing damage to the quality score? I just don’t see the two things you are talking actually about working on the same squeeze page.

Hi Armand,
Love the videos, but this one on Opt-In pages seems to be getting cut off in the middle, just as your explaining the common Google Slap myth.

Hi Armand,
Thank you so much for putting me in touch with the videos. I
have honestly learned so much from them, I hope you keep
going on to other things. I’ve been told to be very careful
with your opt-in page. Just one thing wrong and you have trouble.
Now I feel more comfortable doing one. Also, I would like to know
more about getting audio. And one more thing, lol I would like to
know more about branding your pages.
